Stress is good!

Well some stress is. It is a natural part of living and the stress response is normal. When people tell me that they want to get rid of stress, what they really mean perhaps is that they want to get rid of unnecessary stress.

So what is normal stress and unnecessary stress?

Someone pulls out of a side road and you have to brake really sharply. You feel a sinking feeling as the thought of hitting the car makes you fearful. NORMAL

You are waiting to go into an interview or on stage to perform or give a presentation, and you feel your stomach rolling and your heart is racing. NORMAL

You are going in for a competition or getting married and your legs wobble a bit. NORMAL

You think about going to work and doing your job, and your heart races and your start sweating. UNNECESSARY

You are in the supermarket and a wave of fear overcomes you and you run out. UNNECESSARY

You are invited to a party and even the thought of it makes you feel fearful and break out in a sweat. UNNECESSARY

Those kind of stress factors are not necessary for you and cause you to be even more fearful about going out, or doing the things you used to do. It means that your body is reacting ad responding unnecessarily. It is such a horrible feeling of losing control, and it seems to get worse each time. This is because the triggers are set and every time you want to do something that involves any day to day activities, the trigger response is fired off.

Fortunately, hypnosis and NLP combined is one of the very best ways to deal with stress. Medication will help to balance the mind a bit, but it does not always seem to be the answer.

Be thankful for normal stress as it can literally save your life, but do something about getting rid of stress that you really could do without and truly is unnecessary.
