FREE resource
They say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but here are some simple ideas to help you to think differently.
We make sense of the world using our five senses. We visualise, we think, we feel, taste and smell. The sixth sense is often referred to as our instincts.
Now, if we do these things externally, we must also do them internally, and that is where we go wrong sometimes. Our thinking causes feelings, and we often make pictures to go along with our thinking. Just think back to an uncomfortable time. What are your thoughts around the experience? Are you making images about that time too? It may be the place you were in or the people you were with. and just notice for a moment how you feel when you think about that time. Not so good? Not a problem? If it is not so good you may be making pictures that seem very bright to you, and if the experience does not bother you, you may not be making a picture at all, or if you do, it may be far away and dull.
It is incredible how the brain works, and most people with post traumatic stress disorder will be seeing the pictures in colour very bright and very near to them, and the words will go along with the image. So do you think it would be a good idea to change the picture, making less bright and less focused? and if you were to change what you were saying to yourself, what difference would that make to your feelings?
We can never get a feeling without a thought. Thoughts come first and then feelings. try it today, keep repeating a word to yourself that could only produce good feelings, and then notice how your feelings change.
Our brains are not that complicated, unless you make them complicated. Work out how you can make your brain act in a different way, and look out for good feelings and thoughts.
